NOTE: The following column appeared in the February edition of the Alabama Republican Party's E-lephant newsletter.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the year we have been working toward here at the Alabama Republican Party for almost four years! 2010 certainly has the opportunity to be a year of historic victories and accomplishments for our Party.

The legislative session began in early January and although we have our hands full as the minority party, our Republican Caucuses in the House and Senate have been pushing as hard as we can to pass ethics reform, protect businesses from the constant pressure from Democrats to raise taxes and continue to focus on legislation that will create jobs for Alabama citizens.

Since we are in an election year, it’s no surprise that Democrats are showing they will do and say anything to protect the status quo and remain in the majority. That means more pork projects and wasteful spending of money that belongs to the hardworking families of Alabama.

Republicans, however, will continue to fight the liberal spending in Montgomery and in Washington, but the only way we will control the future is not to make the mistakes of the past. That means giving the people of Alabama a Legislature that works for them and not special interest groups!

The people are ready to rid Alabama of the culture of corruption created by Democrats over their 136 years of control – and the time to send the message comes in just a few months.

Your Party’s leadership and staff have been working and preparing for this critical election year for some time. I can tell you without hesitation that we have the organization, the candidates, the resources and the team in place.

But we need your help. Please visit our websites, www.ALGOP.org and www.Alabama2010.com and find out how you can help our Party make history this November.
