Rep. Mike Hubbard (R-Auburn), who represents District 79 in the Alabama House of Representatives, has avoided any major party opposition in the upcoming 2010 Primary and General Elections.

Hubbard, who also serves as House Minority Leader and Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party, will be unopposed in the June GOP Primary and will not face a Democrat opponent in November. Qualifying for both the Republican and Democratic Parties ended Friday, April 2 at 5 p.m..

"I am very pleased to not have major party opposition during this election cycle," Hubbard said. "The Democrats spent over $500,000 during the last election trying to unseat me, which made it not only an expensive race but a hard fought one as well.

"I very much appreciate the opportunity to represent the people of District 79 in the Alabama House of Representatives and I look forward to continuing that work," Hubbard continued. "It is an honor and a privilege I take very seriously."

Although Hubbard has avoided any major party opposition in 2010, he has pledged to work to help other Republican candidates for the Alabama Legislature to win races in November in an effort to elect a Republican majority for the first time in 136 years.

"I am excited about the opportunity we have this year to make this an historic election in Alabama," Hubbard said. "I will be working to make sure other Republican legislative candidates have the resources necessary to win elections across the state. If we are successful, we will finally be in a position to fundamentally change Alabama."

Hubbard, 48, is seeking his fourth four-year term in November.
